Yes, We're from Texas

It's been a crazy 2 weeks! Has it been for you? It's been kind of an adjustment for us - all the new things that go along with having the girls in the Brit school. I'm getting there though. I haven't forgotten to send them with lunch yet so I think I'm doing good. I came close once, but I don't count that.

Anyway. I came across this thing a while back on Facebook about what Brits think of us Americans and I wanted to show you...but then I forgot. (Because, you know, I have the attention span of a squirrel.) I would love to give credit where credit is due and tell you who posted it, but I forgot that too. (And I'm far too lazy to go sift through everyone's stuff to find out.)

Typically, when we're out places...usually places further away from the bases...we get a lot of "oh you're from America!" (Gee, what gave it away?) And then comes the "where are you from" questions. And if the person has spent any kind of time in the States, for whatever reason they can usually guess that I am from Texas pretty quickly. (I haven't figured out why. I don't acknowledge that I have an accent at all.) If they haven't been to the States, and know absolute zero about it, once they learn that we are in fact from the great state of Texas I get the really fun questions: do you own horses, why don't you wear those big hats...or those big boots, do you drive a truck, so you really like guns. {{Please insert deadpan silence here}}

No. A resounding no to all questions. Lol I'm from a city...a pretty big one actually, own a dog who (to be fair) could probably be mistaken for a horse, drive a minivan, detest hats, don't discuss gun control, footwear is a personal thing but I prefer flip flops or converse...and no, I don't own any of those big belt buckles either. I mean, c'mon y'all! (lol!!)

So, yes, it seems the Brits have some very interesting opinions about us. (I blame TV...and YouTube.) Are you curious about what they think?

Honestly, I got a pretty good laugh from this. But it does explain some of the weird questions I've gotten in the last year and a half.

Anywho! It is morning so I should probably stop playing on the computer and go get to all that parenting stuff. Like making sure my girls have lunches for school. (That might be good.)

Much love my sweets! <3

A Big Bag of Excited

Good morning! I can't believe it's already Thursday. Did you have an awesome Labor Day weekend? We had a very lazy one. Like, I spent a good part of Saturday afternoon laying in my living room floor listening to the Eagles station on Pandora. It was a little slice of heaven. And just what this mama needed after Hayden's first week of school. To say it didn't go so well would be an understatement. Lol

For all of our prepping, there was just nothing we could do to get him ready for his schedule changes. Not only his he supposed to be spending more time in regular classrooms this year, but it's block scheduling - weird block scheduling. Every day his schedule is different. And for a kid like him, that is a recipe for absolute disaster. Hayden thrives on routine. He needs to know what's going to happen. Crazy schedules and mixed up routines makes him a little...upset. (That's a really nice way of putting it.)

But! He's getting there. We're working together with his teachers and coming up with plans and trying to figure out what's going to work and what isn't so that's awesome. We're going to get there. (Please cross your fingers for me. Lol)

In other news though....today is a really big day for the girls. And I am way excited!

Kierstin's 1st day of 6th Year (a.k.a. 5th grade)
Makenzie's 1st day of 4th year (a.k.a 3rd grade)

It's their first day at the British school. =) Eeek! I'm excited. Their excited! It's a big bag of excited around here! They've been waiting for so long for this. (And truth be told, I am really glad I won't have to hear "How many more days until school" anymore.)

And as a word of advice for anyone who ever has to buy uniforms. Something I wish I had known about 2 weeks ago. *Buy no-iron uniforms* Trust me. You'll thank me for it. You'll love me for it. You'll bake me cookies that I can't eat because you'll be so happy about not having to iron uniforms. Lol!! (Can you tell that I spent a very long time ironing uniforms last night? I did.)

But! They're off doing their British school thing. And Mr. Hayden is off doing his school thing. And this mama is going to enjoy her first day of quiet in 3 months.

Ahhh, the sounds of silence! (Yay!!) I love my kids to pieces and having more time with them in the summer is awesome. But they are loud! =) And I am going to enjoy every single second of quiet, argument-free, lego-cities-all-over-my-floor-free moment I have.

I do hope all is well for you, wherever you are. Much love my sweeties! <3
